About this policy
This policy describes how this website may collect, use, disclose, store and protect information about the people who use it. It covers this website only.
The estimate form sends the information described below to the business and stores the request so it can be handled and followed up.
Information you give us
The estimate request form is the only place on this site where you can enter information about yourself. It asks for:
- your name, so that a reply can be addressed to you
- an email address, a phone number, or both - at least one, because otherwise no reply can reach you
- where the project is, in your own words
- a description of the project you want done
- when you would prefer to be contacted, chosen from a short list
- your permission to be contacted about the request, given by ticking a box that starts empty
The form asks for nothing else. It has no file upload, so no photographs or documents can be sent through it. It takes no payment details, and there are no accounts and no passwords on this site. Anything you choose to write into the description box is stored as you wrote it, so please do not include information you would not want kept.
Information collected automatically
When you send an estimate request, the server also records a small amount of technical information alongside it:
- a one-way scrambled form of the network address the request came from, and of the identifier your browser sends about itself - the originals are not written down, and the scrambled values cannot be turned back into them
- which page the request was sent from, the address of the site that linked you here if there was one, and any campaign tags in the link you followed
- the date and time of the request, and a record of what the system did with it afterwards
Vercel hosts and delivers this website and may process standard request and server-log information as part of providing that service.
How the information is used
Information from an estimate request is used to:
- read and respond to your request, and talk to you about the project you described
- arrange a visit, a call or an appointment where that is what you have asked for
- keep a record of what was asked and what was answered, so that a later conversation makes sense
- keep the site working and protect it from spam and abuse
- understand how people found the site, and whether it is doing its job
- keep the business records a business needs to keep, including a record of the permission you gave
- respect the contact preferences you set, including a decision to stop
Your information is not used for anything else, and it is not used to build a profile of you across other websites.
Contacting you, and what you agreed to
Ticking the permission box on the estimate form means the business may contact you about that request, using the email address or phone number you gave. The exact wording you agreed to is stored with your request, so there is a record of what was actually said rather than what a policy claims was said.
Agreeing to be contacted about a request is not the same as agreeing to marketing, and agreeing to text messages is a separate decision again. One permission is never treated as another.
No text-message programme exists. The site sends none, asks for no permission to send any, and stores no such permission.
No automated email is sent from this site either. Nothing on it is connected to a mail service.
Selling personal information
The business does not sell personal information, and does not exchange it with other companies for their own marketing.
How long the information is kept
Information is kept only as long as there is a reason to keep it. The reasons are:
- answering and following up the request you sent
- meeting record-keeping obligations that apply to the business
- dealing with a question or a dispute about work that was discussed or carried out
- investigating spam, fraud or misuse of the site
How long each of those lasts has not been set. A specific period is added here once the business and its adviser have agreed one. None is stated until then, because a made-up period would be worse than none.
How information is protected
Reasonable administrative, technical and organisational measures are used to protect information: the connection to this site is encrypted, stored requests are reachable only by the business through a server that holds the credentials, your browser never connects to the database directly, and the network address and browser identifier recorded with a request are scrambled rather than stored as they arrived.
No website or database can be made completely secure, and this policy does not promise that it is. What it commits to is care proportionate to the information held, and keeping as little of it as the job needs.
Choices and requests
You can ask the business to:
- stop contacting you, or contact you only in one particular way
- correct something you got wrong when you sent the request
- delete the request you sent
- tell you what was stored when you sent it
The business has not yet published a contact route, so there is no address to send such a request to from this page. That is a gap, it is known, and it is one of the things being settled before this site goes live.
Children
This site is a service for homeowners and property owners arranging building work. It is not designed for or directed to children, and there is no reason for a child to send an estimate request through it.
Links to other sites
If this site ever links somewhere else, that other site has its own privacy practices and this policy does not cover them.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the business or website changes. The effective date shown on this page identifies the current version.
